How Much Each Player Selected in the First Round of the NFL Draft Makes
From extreme conditions on the field to the bright shining lights of the stadium, football is a highly competitive sport in which only the best make it to the top. And every year, football stars from college campuses around the nation put their jerseys aside, dress up in their finest gear and hope to be one of the 32 draftees chosen in the first round of the NFL draft. But there’s more than pride on the line — there’s a lot of money up for grabs, too. So how much does it pay to be the first pick compared to the 32nd?
Using data from the NFL and Spotrac — an online sports system that breaks down contracts, yearly salaries and more — we found the contracts and signing bonuses signed by each 2019 first-round draft pick and compared them to other players who have signed four-year contracts in the previous four years. What we’ve found is clear: it pays to be No. 1.
